The following groups are not officially part of Wabana Township government. But since they serve Wabana residents, we thought you’d like to know about them. Disclaimer: By listing these groups here, it does not mean that Wabana Township endorses the views of these organizations.

 “Bone Builders” offered at the Town Hall

The Bone Builders program is offered at the Wabana Town Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.  
Bone Builders is a program of ElderCircle, and is a free fitness and strength building program for older adults that:

  • increases energy, mobility and well-being
  • builds muscle strength and bone density
  • improves balance and flexibility
  • prevents/reverses osteoporosis

There is no charge to participate. You are asked to arrive about 15 minutes early and bring your own water bottle. New members are encouraged at any time.

Wabana OWLS

The Wabana/Balsam OWLS  (OWLS = Older, Wiser, Livelier, Seniors) meets the fourth Wednesday of every month January to October, and the 3rd Wednesday in November and December (due to Thanksgiving and Christmas falling on the fourth week). OWLS starts at noon with a catered lunch provided for $6 per person. A program follows after lunch dealing with information of interest to Seniors such as health, finance, wills, assisted living, etc. Dues are $2 per year, and all paid up members get a free lunch in May.

Wabana Community Fund

The Wabana Community Fund sponsors the Ice Cream Social in August, the annual Hunter’s Supper in November, and funeral luncheons. Funds raised from the Hunters’ Supper are used to support scholarships and Wabana Township events. To get involved, contact Jean Koewler (326-4302).

Wabana Community Scholarship Program

Wabana Township residents pursuing post-secondary education may apply for a Community Fund scholarship.

Applicants must be a resident of Wabana Township and be pursuing post-secondary education in the fall after submitting an application.  Former recipients may not apply.

In addition to the Wabana scholarship, the MN Association of Townships also offers a scholarship program.

Wabana Historical Committee

The Wabana Historical Committee is open to anyone interested in preserving the history of our township. The group collects oral histories, photos, and other information about the history of our area. If you would like to tell your story, click here. We have a display rack and a display of photos and other historic documents that are on a table at the Town Hall for all to see. Come join the group to help out! The group meets at the Town Hall in the summer months.
