Wabana Recreation Committee (WTRC) Survey Request

The Wabana Township Comprehensive Use Plan of 2021 identified the need to improve the recreational facilities at the Township Hall as “important” to “very important”.  To look into this effort, the Wabana Recreation Committee (WTRC) was formed with the mission statementTo maintain and enhance recreational opportunities, for the benefit of Wabana Township citizens and visitors, in cooperation with identified partners.

The Wabana Township Recreation Committee has continued to be very busy working on plans for the Township’s recreational improvements. The project may include updates to the hockey rink, playground areas, tennis courts, relocating basketball hoops, and additional amenities.

The Committee has been working with Sarah Carling from Community and Economic Development Associates. This organization has helped many other townships reach their funding goals for projects. This is a big undertaking, but it is do-able.

One way you can help is to complete a Survey.  We want to get your input on future park improvements. This will greatly help the committee work towards meeting our community’s needs. It will also help in obtaining grants for park improvements. This Survey is available online and paper copies are available in the mailbox by the Town Hall front door. Please complete the Survey by Saturday, October 29.

Each member in the household may complete the Confidential Survey, available online at this link:

Also, fundraising efforts for this project are underway. More detailed information about the project and how to make a tax-deductible donation will be mailed in early November. This information will also be posted on the Wabana website.

Itasca County is sponsoring a project to help diminish blight in Itasca County. The name of this project is “Fight Blight”.  The county has asked all townships to get the word out and volunteer to help Fight Blight within their townships.

Wabana Township will be holding the event on Saturday August 13th and Sunday August 14th from 8am-4pm.

The Township also  needs volunteers to monitor the dumpsters these two days.  If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Gary Oja at (218-259-0732).
